That’s the answer to this clue: The 2016 Kentucky state champion in the Kentucky Society of CPAs’ annual Jeopardy!-style tournament. Bellarmine’s PEAK (Promote & Encourage Accounting in Kentucky) team defeated 10 others at the Kentucky CPA banquet at the Galt House on April 29 to claim the trophy. In 2015, Bellarmine’s team was co-champion.
Questions in four of the categories are drawn from the four sections of the CPA exam—auditing and attestation; business environment and concepts; financial accounting and reporting; and regulation. A fifth category is made up of questions about the profession.
“To me, the biggest benefit of competing is that it forced me to go ahead and start studying for the CPA exam,” said team captain Adam Sterrett, who has been responsible for the financial category in his three years on the team. Adam, who graduated in May, plans to spend the summer and fall continuing to study for the CPA exam, and then go to work for Mountjoy Chilton Medley. Other team members were Max Clemons ’16 and Lauren Thomas ’16; Levi Allgeier; and alternate Grant Snow. Team sponsors are Dr. Alan Deck, professor of Accounting, and Ms. Alisha Harper, assistant professor.
The team dedicated its win to Dr. Richard Schrader, the longtime professor and former Accounting chair who died in 2015, Adam said. “He was all about knowing everything, and he had a big impact on all of us.”
